Walk #226: 6 Kids, 6 Dogs, 1 Spouse and Alpacas

Joni, Jazzy, Angel and I went out to visit some neighbor's Alpacas.

We were met by their five dogs...

Alpacas are herd animals (much like humans). Watch how they look the same way:

And then all turn to face me. If you want to understand how the corporate media behaves, just watch a herd of Alpacas for awhile.

We finished the walk with the neighbor's five kids joining us. Plus their five dogs. There is something earthy about a rural kid. They join pudgy old farts like me on a walk (lately it seems like they lie in wait for me to walk by--then coming up and enthusiastically joining my walk). They talk excitedly about Alpacas and chickens. They know about composting. I'd say they are rather lucky...

I'm so glad to see you back home with your family, enjoying your home habitat, living in community with neighbors. Yup, rural kids get quite the education in essential facts of life -- especially how to be happy outdoors.

Did 17.3 miles today, biking over to the home/biz of a solar colleague. It's actually probably only about 4 miles as the crow flies from my folks, but there's a big bay in the way. Next time maybe I'll hitch a ride across on a boat...

I only rode one way -- my colleague gave me and the bike a ride back so he could give advice on my brother's planned solar hot water system. I felt good enough to ride back, but it was 80-plus, so probably wiser to take the ride...

Ian,

Just want to take a minute to thank you for the work that you do. As I read about your adventures, it seems every day you are riding from one solar installation to some wind project.

Lately, in my work as a psychiatric RN, I see the importance of Erickson's stages of development. We are in the "generativity vs. stagnation" phase.

You are not stagnant!

If we ever do cross this bridge to a cleaner healthier world, efforts such as yours will be one reason that we get there.

Thanks!

Thanks, Allan. I enjoy my work/passion, and dream that more people in this world would spend their time doing things that are important to them, instead of biding time, paying bills, or feeling stuck.
