Walk #153: Bringing the Girls...

Today I brought the girls along for our walk. Joni, girl spouse. Kylie and Jazmine, girl step grandchildren. Angel, girl dog.

These are hardy girls. Troopers! They even let me watch baseball once and awhile...

I had a county sustainability task force meeting to attend today, and decided to try to get there by bike and public transit. It's about 25 miles each way, and I didn't attempt to do it all. Though now that I've done it this way, I'd like to work up to doing the full round trip before the committee is dissolved.

I rode across the island, took the 7 AM ferry, and did some hardware shopping before catching the transit bus to Burlington (Costco). The buses have neat fold-out racks that carry two bikes. The driver ended up switching my bike around after a few miles, 'cause my wind shield was blocking his view. ;-)

I biked the 1.6 miles from the closest stop to the county building, and we actually had quite a productive meeting, with some good laughs too.

Then I did some more hardware shopping (some people like liquor...), and caught the (late) bus back to March Point. The return bus at that hour is not through to Anacortes, but there's another one that meets it and goes the rest of the way. I had already planned to bike from there, which was just as well, 'cause there were four bikes, and already one had to be inside the bus. The ride from there is almost all on a paved rail trail, and a chunk of it goes across the bay on a former railroad trestle, so it's an easy and beautiful ride.

I did my last hardware shopping, saving the Sluggo and shovels until last... and then nipped onto the 2:30 ferry and rode home. Stopped in both directions to look at the tower repair Andy is doing for me.

Photos of the adventure are on my blog.

Next time I might leave on the earliest ferry and see how far east I can get, catching the bus if it looks like I won't make the 9 AM meeting start.
